Oropharyngeal swabs are having a larger tip compared to a nasopharyngeal swab. By definition, it is used for oral specimen collection. With the nylon / rayon tip, this is manufactured with a flocking design, enabling higher efficiencies in specimen collectinf operations. Compared to the traditional woven swab, this is more like a high end construction, with a modern design.
Breaking point can be determined, according to the application and the domensions of the specimen holding container.
The rod is made out of ABS which is an engineering plastic is popular due to its low production cost and the ease with which the material is machined.
The rod break point is engineered specifically, so that it can hold the swab strong enough for the specimen collecting, but the weak point is weak enough, so that the user can conveniently break the swab, once the specimen is collected and ready for transportation.
